The need for more environmentally friendly, sustainable and efficient travel is an ever-increasing problem for the modern world. The global transport industry is collectively working to find a solution for this problem that isn’t going away any time soon.

Their investigations into future technologies for transport solutions has lead manufacturers down multiple paths including alternative fuels such as electricity and hydrogen, autonomous mobility, and even flying cars. However, one of the more successfully introduced technologies in recent years would be the Internet of Things or IoT.

The introduction of IoT into the automotive world has been a rather successful one as many manufacturers now gather data from their new vehicles to improve their vehicles completely wireless via over the air updates.

Many vehicle manufacturers even feature smart device applications that allow you to use multiple vehicle functions when away from the vehicle, including locking/unlocking, turning on the headlights and even starting the engine. Some Australian refuse trucks have even had IoT enabled cameras fitted in order to scan the road for potholes in a project costing over $1m in government funding.

IoT in Aerospace

Research and development of IoT in the aerospace segment has increased efficiency saving both time and money whilst allowing more flights to take place in the same amount of time. Thanks to the introduction of a fully bespoke IoT developed especially for the Air industry, planes are now emptied, maintained, refuelled, reloaded and back in the air in record time.

This is of course ignoring the further developments in commercial air travel, which now enables consumers to check-in prior to even arriving at the airport, move through security and customs checks and finally board the plane quicker than ever before due to fully integrated IoT systems managing passengers independently of human intervention, providing the highly efficient service that modern customers demand.

IoT on the Rails

IoT has also taken to the railways enhancing the efficiency of trains to maximum effect. The increase in IoT has led to fewer delays from broken down trains as preventative maintenance is now recommended by the IoT and alerts managers when required, thus reducing delays from on track issues. This preventative maintenance also means less unscheduled delays meaning off track time can be kept to a minimum through regularly scheduled servicing and repairs.

Moreover, the customer experience has also been improved through these systems that can be more personalised allowing rail companies to offer exclusive deals to regular travellers, rewarding their brand loyalty. This of course is enhanced by the availability of e-tickets, scheduling information and other informative abilities realised through the use of a smart phone.

CTI have a long-established reputation for developing high-quality, premium, and in some cases bespoke antennas suitable for use in IoT systems. they are widely used across the industry and are recognised as some of the most reliable connectivity systems on the market today.

Our use of premium materials and engineering techniques develops an exquisite antenna suitable for a variety of industries. Not only that the number of frequencies covered allows maximum adjustability to correspond with other technology ensuring a quick and reliable signal.
